Location

Among the manor houses of the Province of Brindisi, Masseria Incantalupi is not far from the splendid sea of Puglia and the medieval hamlet of Ostuni. This location allows access to many places that have made this magnificent peninsula famous, a preferred destination for so many tourists in search of agritourism, surprising landscapes, witnesses to Baroque art and sublime tranquility.

Among expanses of vineyards, almond and olive groves, San Vito dei Normanni is 6 km from the sea and is famous for the contribution of its inhabitants to the victory of the “Lega Santa (Holy League)” during the battle of Lepanto. The mother church, Chiesa “madre” di Santa Maria of the Vittoria dedicated to these deeds dates back to the 11th century. There, visitors admire a splendid altar and the silver statue of San Vito. From the city plaza rises the castle, castello Dentice di Frasso with a broad stone stairway and a tower that dominates the landscape; do not forget to make a visit to the nine altars of the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie.

A seaside city, a major port of the southern Adriatic, Brindisi is at a short distance from the Masseria Incantalupi. Its artistic heritage is centered in the old section and is a concentration of Baroque and Romanesque architecture . The two Colonne Romane, the cathedral with the relics of San Teodoro and the famous Portico dei Cavalieri Templari of piazza del Duomo are the evidence of the prestigious past of this major center, an extraordinary outpost towards the east dominated by the imposing Castello Svevo.

Ostuni is a center of ancient origins developed on the hills of the Murgia characterized by the typical white-washed houses in the valley of Itria. Small piazzas, rutted alleyways and picturesque glimpses follow each other in succession, revealing a splendid gothic Roman cathedral and the sanctuary of Sant'Oronzo to which, during the month of August, is dedicated to the Cavalcata di Sant’Oronzo. At the Museo delle Civiltà Preclassiche you may admire the remains of Delia, a pregnant woman who lived at least 25,000 years ago. High quality hospitality, magnificent landscapes and delicious cuisine make the “white city” of Ostuni one of the most appreciated places of the Puglia.

Behind Brindisi, on the northern edge of the Tavoliere di Lecce, Mesagne in the province. From one of the two 18th century gates of the city, you may reach the ancient hamlet where the arcade of palazzo Scazzeri and the splendid facade of the chiesa Matrice have a surprising originality and beauty; nearby, an archeological complex dating back to the 11th B.C. Here we are reminded of the Messapian origins of the city. Palazzo Guarini preserves inside it an ancient underground oil-press and near the wall of the Castello Normanno Svevo you may admire the splendid chiesa di Sant’Anna and the original architecture of palazzo Cavaliere.

The coast. The Pugliese shore is known throughout the world for its surprising alternation of marvelous beaches and spectacular bays. Lodging at the Masseria Incantalupi, it is simple to reach an extraordinary shore: 30 kilometers beginning with renowned thermal facilities of Torre Canne and are concluded near Torre Guaceto. Protected by the WWF, the Parco Marino di Torre Guaceto is a naturalistic oasis that from the Adriatic sea extends inland, among archeological sites of the Roman era, churches and castles of Federico II. This is a must-see stop for fans of history, the naturalistic excursions and diving.

Lecce. If you are willing to go about forty miles, you will arrive at the city of Lecce, where you will see what humanity has managed to do with the malleable Salentine stone: it is enough to see the facade of the basilica di Santa Croce to imagine the splendor of the entire Pugliese Baroque. Other than its monuments and their relevant cultural path, Lecce is a city full of young people and no lack of music, theater and night spots.
